Nordic Green Climate Wall - when climate adaptation and energy production come together

On the 21st of November 2022, the results from the project Nordic Green Climate Wall was presented at a one-day conference at Danish Technological Institute in Taastrup, Denmark.

Green walls are one of the various SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) elements that can be used for handling rainwater, and they are becoming more and more popular in the cities. The project, Nordic Green Climate Wall, is funded by Realdania, and Danish Technological Institute has, alongside partners, explored the opportunities for extracting energy from a green wall to use it for heating of utility water through a heat pump. Simultaneously it has been examined how this new method of management affects the condition of the plants.

The conference revolved around the potential of green walls as a SUDS-solution as well as their possibilities for generating heat that can be used in buildings. On the day, the results for the two year long project were presented alongside the collected data from a green wall that had been set up for the purpose. Furthermore, various experts contributed with presentations regarding green walls.
